There’s something magical about the holidays and that extra permission to indulge in little luxuries. While there are plenty of classic holiday drinks to reach for, nothing feels quite as effortlessly elevated as an espresso martini done right. It’s chic, it’s easy, and it carries that little spark of energy we all need during the winter season.
But what makes the holiday espresso martini different? And what gives it that casual luxury feel that pairs perfectly with a night of cozy knit sweaters, festive scents, & good company?
The espresso martini is the perfect blend of comfort, celebration, energy, and warmth. Sure, they're a year-round favorite, but during the holidays, they just hit different.
The Recipe
Aside from using high-quality ingredients (you don’t need a ton, so make each one count), the real holiday upgrade comes from the details. Use fresh espresso if you can; the aroma alone sets the tone. Even if you’re using Nespresso or another machine, choosing a seasonal or darker roast adds depth—my personal favorite Nespresso pod to use is the Puerto Rico Double Espresso.
Chill your glass(es). Nothing screams “luxury” like a perfectly frosted martini glass. It also keeps the drink silky and smooth from first sip to last.
Shake it like you mean it. That foam everyone loves? It doesn't happen on its own. A strong, confident shake creates that creamy top layer that makes the drink Instagram level beautiful.
Don't be afraid to add your own twist. Think a whisper of vanilla, a dash of cinnamon, or seasonal flavors like brown sugar, peppermint, and gingerbread!
Garnish lightly. A trio of coffee beans is classic. A light dusting of cinnamon is effortlessly festive. A single star anise is stunning. Keep it minimal and don't overthink it.
What You'll Need
1 OZ Espresso OR Cold Brew Concentrate
2 OZ Vodka—You can also substitute with your favorite tequila!
1 OZ Rumchata, Optional
1 OZ Coffee Liqueur Such as Kahlúa
Coctail Shaker
Ice
Pull your espresso. I like letting mine cool a bit before assembling to prevent the drink from watering down.
Pour your espresso/cold brew concentrate, vodka, coffee liqueur, and Rumchata into a cocktail shaker. I like adding flavored syrup, like brown sugar, to my drinks for another layer of depth. Feel free to add as much as you'd like. The more syrup, the sweeter the drink.
Add ice to your shaker—about halfway.
Seal the shaker and shake vigorously until cold and the outside of the shaker is frosty. That's how you'll know you're done.
Pour through a strainer into your martini glass and garnish as desired.
That's it, you're done! Fast, simple, and easy.
When to Serve Your Cocktail
Honestly? Anytime. But here are some of my faves:
Holiday dinners—the perfect after dessert pick-me-up
Gift wrapping nights—makes the chore feel festive & fun
Small gatherings or intimate parties—pretty much a guaranteed crowd pleaser
This is one of those drinks that says I made something special for us without actually being difficult to make.
Cheers to cozy evenings, festive energy, and a holiday season filled with warm luxury. One martini at a time.
